LB (M,W,N) Force “BILLS”: Whenever there is NOT a hard corner or roll down safety and the OLB is occupying the widest underneath zone to that side
Safety Force (FS, WS) “SAINTS”: whenever there is a roll down safety occupying the widest underneath zone to that side
Corner Force (FC, BC) “COLTS”: whenever there is a hard corner occupying the widest underneath zone to that side
Peel Rules and Coverages
Cover 5, Red Peel, Black Peel
Edge rusher to each side is responsible to eyes on the RB and will take him in man coverage if he releases to their side
Peel Communication
DL Peel: LB to the side of the peel will communicate a Peel Alert to the DL. If RB inserts in the interior the player responsible for that gap will grab him

Pressure tags will always correlate with LB alignment

Hot
Responsible for a man underneath in zone coverage, expecting the ball to be out fast; used in Cover 5

Pursuing a ball carrier’s inside hip, making sure you keep an inside track to the ball carrier and do not lose leverage
LOAF
LACK OF ATHLETIC FINISH Poor effort in pursuit, technique, or physicality. the defensive coaching staff decides if its a LOAF

Low Hip
Inside and underneath the target’s near hip. Used to describe tempo re-routing, playing trail man, and defending the back shoulder fade
MEG
Man everywhere he goes, man to man no matter what route is run
MES
Man except shallow. Man to man unless route is a shallow/drag
Midpoint
getting directly in between 2 routes then reacting off the QB

Player who is pressuring with eyes on the RB, if RB releases peel player takes them
Plus Split
#1 WR’s split is 2 or more yards wider than the numbers
Poach
backside zone defender who has no work works towards the football based on QB eyes
Point
WR on the LOS in a stack or bunch
Roll Down Safety
safety comes down from 2 high alignment and becomes an underneath defender in zone or in man coverage
RPO
Run/Pass Option
Scrape
your pre-snap run gap has been eliminated, work over the top and find the open window; term is used with LBs/DBs in the run game
Shoot the Window
defender violently throwing arm in between a WR’s hands when he is attempting to catch the ball
Short Mesh
QB RB mesh where RBs shoulders are Square/45 degree angle to the LOS (IZ & Power)
Skate
2-3 shuffle or glide steps at 45 degree angle when transitioning from a backpedal to a forward run. Used in man coverage
Snugs
2 WRs that are within 1-4 yards but not stacked
Stack WRs
1 WR on the LOS while another is aligned directly behind him
Underneath Defender
A player whose pass coverage responsibility is flat, curl, hook, or low hole
Wall
Departing at an angle & speed based on the offensive players tempo, collision the target’s near hip and pec. not allowing target to come inside or underneath you
Wing
TE or FB align off of the LOS behind or just outside the OT or TE
Wreck
Technique used to collision a puller by violently striking through the puller’s inside pec, bouncing the football to the perimeter
