Jesus' mother and brothers
According to Luke 8:19-21, those who hear the word of God and act on it.
The Word of God
The foundation of Christian life and the source of the revelation of God which is the basis of the life of faith.
Second Vatican Council (Teaching on Scripture)
Teaches that the Church venerates the Holy Bible just as the sacred Body of Christ is venerated.
Divine Revelation - 21
A document stating the Word of God provides the Church with support and vigor, supplies faith to her children, and food for their souls.
Imperishable seed
The living and enduring Word of God through which believers have been born anew (1Pet. 1:23).
Wise man who built his house on rock
A metaphor for everyone who listens to the words of Jesus and acts on them (Mt. 7:24).
Discipleship
A sharing of Jesus' individuality achieved by remaining in His word and living according to His teachings.
Zacchaeus
A person transformed by the Word who gave half of his wealth to the poor and paid back four-fold of what he defrauded.
Samaritan woman
A woman who entered a new life after meeting the Word and became a missionary leading a whole town to Jesus.
St. Augustine
A man who led a wayward life for thirty years but was converted by the Word in Romans 13:12-14 to 'put on the Lord Jesus Christ'.
St. Francis Xavier
A teacher at the University of Paris who became a missionary and saint after hearing the Word: 'what will it profit them if they gain the whole world but forfeit their life?'
Lazarus
A man who regained life four days after his death through the power of the Word (Jn. 11:44).
Word of Truth
St. Paul's qualification of the Word of God as the good news of salvation (Eph. 1:13).
Word as Fire
A description from Jeremiah 23:29 depicting how the Word of God purifies and sanctifies like gold being melted.
St. Jerome's Teaching
The principle that when we pray, we speak to God, but when we read the Bible, God speaks to us.
CCC 104
States that in the sacred books, the Father who is in heaven comes lovingly to meet his children and talks with them.
Proper Way to Read the Bible
Reading it prayerfully with the help of the Holy Spirit, while being attentive to the authors' intentions, culture, and literary genres.
