polythetic criteria

• when there’s multiple diagnostic criteria, which don’t all have to be fulfilled (e.g. ā€œshows at least 5 of following symptomsā€ when there’s 9 possible symptoms)

• leads to heterogenous clinical pictures, because some people may exhibit some symptoms that other’s don’t show, while they have other symptoms

• but: threshold determined by decision/consensus → arbitrary

• PD-NOS one of most frequently used
