MONOMER
One molecule that bonds with others to create something, such as an amino acid being the monomer of a protein.
POLYMER
A chain of many monomers.
MONOSACCHARIDES
The monomers of carbohydrates.
POLYSACCHARIDES
Large chains of several monosaccharides, such as starch which is a polymer made of a chain of glucose molecules.
CARBON
The building block for molecules.
POLYMERIZATION
The process when monomers are combined to make polymers.
CARBOHYDRATES
The body's main source of energy, such as glucose.
LIPIDS
Molecules used for long time energy storage, such as fats and oils.
PROTEINS
Molecules made of amino acids that help with chemical reactions, such as muscles.
ENZYMES
Proteins that speed up chemical reactions.
DNA
A double-stranded molecule that stores genetic info and contains deoxyribose and thymine.
RNA
A single-stranded molecule that makes proteins and contains ribose and uracil.
