agility definition-
combines speed with flexibility allowing change of direction with maximal speed and control
two factors effecting agility-
muscle fibre type- greater percentage of fast-twitch fibres will increase agility and generate force production.
reaction time- the faster the reaction time, greater the agility.
energy system and fitness test being used for agility=
ATP-PC system- cause of short bursts and explosive
Illinois agility test- helping netball player to do sharp pivoting and explosive dodging.
speed definition-
combines rate of motion and ability to move the body as quick as possible from one point to another
two factors effecting speed-
flexibility- greaten the flexibility or stride creating greater speed
reaction time- faster the reaction time, greater the speed.
energy system and fitness test being used for speed-
ATP-PC system- quick leads or explosive jumping for rebounds as a defender. or Anaerobic glycolysis system- high intensity for stop and go movements.
20 metre sprint test- drives physiological adaptations that makes you faster during netball game.
muscular power definition
refers to the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to exert a maximum amount of force in a certain period of time.
factors effecting muscular power
cross section area- allows the larger muscle groups to create greater power potential
speed of muscle contraction- faster the muscle contracts the more power it produces.
energy system and fitness test being used for muscular power
ATP-PC system- as it provides instant, peak muscular power and oxygen free energy bursts.
vertical jump test- directly evaluates a netball player’s lower-body explosive power and muscular strength.
aerobic power definition-
the maximum rate of energy production from the aerobic energy system.
factors effecting aerobic power
age- peaks in mid 20s and decreases with age
sex- males often have higher aerobic power then females due to greater size of lungs.
energy system and fitness test used for aerobic power
aerobic system- assists as engine for match play. It provides the sustained energy required to cover the court over 60 minutes.
VO2 max test (treadmill)- measures a netball player’s aerobic capacity and efficiency. It identifies exactly how much oxygen the body can use during intense exercise.
physiological and psychological perspectives
Physiological- physiological perspectives should be taken into account as current fitness and health outcomes. One of the best ways to gain this information is through completing a pre-participation health screening (PAR-Q).
Psychological- knowing the purpose of the testing for the individuals is an important step in this. A participant who knows their strengths and weaknesses may want to choose a different test to someone else → a questionnaire to determine psychological state of individual.
