Read and Write
An assistive software tool represented by a purple icon that provides reading and writing support, including text-to-speech and autocorrect.
Speak as I Type
A feature that plays back the name of the keys pressed on the keyboard so the user can hear which buttons they have hit.
General Tab
A settings section where users can change the toolbar's appearance, including button size, button style, and the option to show text labels.
Reference Style
A setting that allows users to select specific bibliography or citation styles, such as Harvard, MLA, or APA, to help gather information for references.
Exam Mode
A security setting that prevents the user from accessing the internet while using Read and Write during an examination.
Check It
A built-in spell checker that points out errors and provides extra context and dictionary definitions for the words it recommends.
Professional Dictionaries
Dictionary options within the Check It tool that include specialized terminology for medical and legal fields.
Highlighters
Tools used to mark important information that can be automatically collected and organized into a Word document for making notes.
Prediction
A tool that suggests words as the user types to help with writing speed, spelling, and sentence structure.
Word Bank
A feature that allows users to add and store specific course terminology to be used by the prediction menu.
Scanning Tool
A tool used to create digital versions of physical documents or convert PDF files into Word documents to make the text accessible for screen reading.
Audio Maker
A feature that allows the user to download the voice reading the text as an MP3 file to listen to later.
PDF Reader
A specialized reader within the software that allows users to click on text within a PDF to have it read aloud.
OrbitNote
An extension similar to Read and Write used for interacting with and reading PDF documents.
