• refers to the eternal, divine word of God

• shows belief that the son/word of God was present since the very beginning

• logos defined by Gods thoughts and mind by greek philosophers—christian’s furthers this idea

• gods thoughts and mind becoming human to show God’s desire to connect with humanity

• the belief that the sone of god came down from heaven and took human form when Mary became pregnant

• Jesus is fully divine and fully human

• belief 1st refined in 1st council of Nicaea

• a place where people are punished after death for doing wrong or rejecting God

• often described as a place separated from God

• described with fire/darkness to show suffering

• sometimes called Gehenna in the bible

Purgatory

Definition

• a place/state after death where saved souls are purified before entering heaven

Significance

• mainly taught in catholic church

• believed that prayers and good works from ppl on earth can help souls reach heaven

• connected to spiritual cleansing after death
