what is aptosis and why is it relevant to cancer?
Aptosis is programmed cell death and is relevant to cancer because of the large amount of change in the DNA cancer cells are allowed to divide and spread.
What is the difference between mitosis and cytokinesis?
mitosis divides the DNA of the cell and cytokinesis divides the cytoplasm and membrane.
What are the causes of cancer and what are some practical ideas for lowering risks of cancer?
The causes of cancer are carcinogens; carcinogens create mutations in the DNA genes that regulate the Cell cycle. Ex of carcinogens are tobacco products, UV radiation and lack of exercise. Some practical ideas for lowering cancer risks are wearing sunscreen, refraining from smoking and drinking heavily and exercise.
What is cytokinesis?
It is at the end of telophase and is the final process of the cell division, the division between of the cell’s cytoplasm and cell membrane.
Interphase
Cell grows larger, duplicates organelles and replicates the DNA.
Prophase
Centrals organize mitosis spindle; DNA turns into chromosomes.
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up in single file (cell equator).
Anaphase
Chromosomes separate into sister chromatids and move to the different sides of the cell (horizontal).
Telophase
the final stage of cell division in which the spindle disappears and the nucleus forms around each set of daughter chromosomes.
