Flashcards covering Catholic Religious Education notes on justice, original justice, manifestations of human injustice, and restoration through justification.
Justice
The basic human value of showing concern for right relationships, which involves having concern for others and treating them fairly.
Social justice
A form of justice specifically concerned with groups and issues within society.
Just love
Showing love by being fair, which leads to peace, contentment, greater happiness, and a maturing sense of justice.
Injustices within families
Unjust behaviours such as sibling fights, power imbalances between parents and children, putting down a family member, and pointing out weaknesses.
Injustices within the wider community
Ignoring the rights of others and treating them unfairly through direct or indirect actions, such as stealing or ignoring the needs of others.
Injustices between nations
Global imbalances occurring when powerful nations economically dominate others.
Injustices against God
Failing to offer thanks and praise to God as Creator, upon whom every human being depends for everything, such as air, water, and food.
Disunity in the human family
A cause of world injustices arising when people fail to recognise others as people, such as employers viewing workers merely as what they produce.
Original sin
The sin of human beings that disrupted God's plan for the world, destroyed the state of original justice, and serves as the root of all injustices in the world today.
Four harmonies
The original state of harmony established by God at creation: harmony with God, with themselves, with each other, and with creation.
Justification
God's free gift to humanity that restores the relationship between God and the human race.
Two aspects of justification
The two-fold reality whereby people are forgiven and saved from sin through the grace of the Holy Spirit, and are sanctified to receive a share in the very life of God.
