What does the skeletal System consist of?

Bones and connective tissues

What types of connective tissues are in the skeletal system?

Cartilage, tendons, and ligaments

Ligaments

Tough connective tissue band that connects the bones to each other

What are functions of the skeletal system?

Framework, supports the body, protects organs, body movements, storage of minerals, and production of blood cells

Cartilage

A type of connective tissue in the ear and parts of the nose that is both flexible and firm (able to keep its shape)

What does the skull help to protect?

The brain

What does the vertebrae help to protect?

The spinal cord

What does the rib cage help to protect ?

Organs of the thorax, such as the heart and lungs

Tendons

Bands of very strong connective tissue that help to connect the bones to the skeletal muscles

What minerals in blood are stored in bone?

Calcium and Phosphorous

Adipose tissue (in relation to the skeletal system)

is stored in bone cavities and, if needed, are sent out into the blood

In bones, what produces blood cells and platelets?

Red bone marrow
