What is bioinformatics, and what is its primary goal?
Bioinformatics uses computers and technology to analyze biological data. Its primary goal is to understand biological information, such as DNA and protein sequences.
What is protein synthesis? What are the major steps of protein synthesis?
Protein synthesis is the process cells use to make proteins. Its two major steps are transcription and translation.
Why are proteins made and what roles do they play?
Proteins are made to help cells function, grow, and repair themselves. They play roles in processes such as speeding up chemical reactions and transporting substances.
Where does transcription and translation take place?
Transcription takes place in the nucleus, while translation takes place at ribosomes in the cytoplasm.
What role does RNA polymerase play during transcription? Explain.
RNA polymerase reads the DNA template and builds a complementary RNA strand. This produces the mRNA needed for protein synthesis.
