What is enteral feeding?
A different method of providing nutrition via the GI tract
Instead of swallowing food or nutrients, patients will have nutrition directly into stomach or intestines

The stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Must have a functioning GI tract to receive enteral nutrition
A patient has a disorder that affects the absorption of nutrients in the GI tract. Are they a candidate for enteral feeding?
No, have to have a tract that’s able to absorb things
What patients are good candidates for enteral feeding?
Patients who have difficulty or are unable to swallow (unable to take oral intake for prolonged period of time)
Patients who have significant trauma or disease process that requires increased metabolic demand (unable to meet nutritional needs through oral intake alone)
