constellation
group of stars that form a pattern

Hertzprung-Russel Diagram
charts stars based on their temperature, luminosity, magnitude, and mass.

Main-Sequence stage
The stage our sun is currently in. Stars spend most of their life in this stage.
Nebula
Spinning clouds of gas and dust. Stars will form from these.

Protostar
Early form of a star; This stage lies between the collapsing of dust and gas and the beginning of nuclear fusion

supergiant
Large mass stars will form this stage after the main-sequence

Supernova
Occurs when a Supergiant explodes

Neutron Star
Can form after a supernova. A star that is only made of neutrons

Black Hole
An object with such gravity that no light can escape. (forms from VERY high mass star)

red giant
In about 5 billion years, our sun will move to this next stage. The star starts to swell and grow larger.

White Dwarf
The final stage our sun will move into. These are very small in size.

Absolute Magnitude
compares the brightness of stars if they were the same distance from the observer.

Apparent Magnitude
The brightness of star from the position of the observer (from earth).
