Computer system
The combination of hardware, software, and data that work together to perform tasks.
Information system
A broader concept that includes the computer system and also encompasses the people, procedures, and data used to gather, process, store, and distribute information within an organization.
Components of a computer system
The central processing unit (CPU), memory, storage devices, input/output devices, and communication devices.
Types of information systems
Transaction processing systems (TPS), management information systems (MIS), decision support systems (DSS), executive information systems (EIS), and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
Difference between information systems and information technology (IT)
Information systems focus on the broader context of using technology to manage information within an organization, while IT refers specifically to the technology itself, including hardware, software, networks, and databases.
