Resolution

Platform that supports the slide being viewed.
Coarse adjustment knob
Adjusts the stage significantly for focusing.
Fine adjustment knob
Adjusts the stage slightly for focusing.
Base
The bottom part that supports the entire microscope.
Light microscope
Uses glass lenses to magnify objects with light.
Scanning Electron microscope
Utilizes a beam of electrons to examine the surface of objects.
Transmission electron microscope
Produces 2D images by passing electrons through thin slices of specimens.
Total magnification
Calculated by multiplying the magnification of the ocular lens by the objective lens.
Diameter of the field of view
The diameter of the area visible through the microscope at different magnification levels.
Advantage of light microscope
relatively cheap and easy to use, you can see living things and life processes at work like fluid uptake and movement.
Disadvantage of light microscope
They only magnify so much- at most 1000x
Advantage of scanning electron microscope
You can see great detail of the outside of an object. It can magnify a lot up to 500,000x or more.

They are very expensive, you need special training, and the organism is killed
