Kidneys
Two bean-shaped organs that remove nitrogenous waste products from the blood.
Nephron
A urine-producing microstructure, with approximately 1 million in each kidney.
Glomerulus
A cluster of capillaries located at the entrance of a nephron.
Renal pelvis
A funnel-shaped reservoir located inside the kidney.
Hilum
An indent on the medial side of the kidney.
Ureters
Two slender tubes, 10 to 12 inches long, that carry urine from the kidney to the bladder.
Bladder
A hollow organ (windbag) that serves as a reservoir for urine.
Urethra
A canal that passes urine from the bladder to the outside of the body.
Urinary meatus
The urine opening through which urine exits the body.

Combining forms meaning bladder or sac.
glomerul/o
Combining form meaning glomerulus.
meat/o
Combining form meaning meatus.
nephr/o, ren/o
Combining forms meaning kidney.
