Vocabulary review covering parent function equations, domains, ranges, and fundamental features of periodic functions.
Linear Parent Function
A parent function with the equation f(x)=x, domain D={x∈R}, and range R={y∈R}.

Quadratic Parent Function
A parent function with the equation f(x)=x2, domain D={x∈R}, and range R={y∈R∣y≥0}.

Square Root Parent Function
A parent function with the equation f(x)=x, domain D={x∈R∣x≥0}, and range R={y∈R∣y≥0}.

Reciprocal Parent Function
A parent function with the equation f(x)=x1, domain D={x∈R∣x=0}, and range R={y∈R∣y=0}.

Absolute Value Parent Function
A parent function with the equation f(x)=∣x∣, domain D={x∈R}, and range R={y∈R∣y≥0}.

Exponential Parent Function
A parent function with the equation f(x)=bx (where b is any number), domain D={x∈R}, and range R={y∈R∣y>0}.

Peak
The maximum value of a periodic function.
Trough
The minimum value of a periodic function.
Midline / Equation of the Axis
The central horizontal line of a periodic function, calculated as 2max+min.
Period
How long one cycle takes in a periodic function.
Amplitude
The distance between the middle and the maximum or minimum of a periodic function, calculated as 2max−min.
