Stoichiometry
The relationship between various amounts of reactants and/or products in a chemical equation.
Law of Conservation of Mass
The law stating that during a chemical reaction, the total mass of reactants must equal the total mass of products.
Coefficients
Numbers placed in front of reactants and products in a chemical equation to indicate the number of moles of each.
Balanced Chemical Equation
An equation where the number of atoms for each element is the same on both sides.
Limiting Reactant
The reactant that is entirely consumed in a chemical reaction, limiting the amount of product formed.
Excess Reactant
The reactant that remains after the limiting reactant is completely consumed.
Empirical Formula
The simplest whole number ratio of the elements in a compound.
Molar Mass
The mass of one mole of a substance, typically expressed in grams per mole.
Mole-to-Mole Conversions
Calculations that relate the quantities of reactants and products using their coefficients from a balanced chemical equation.
Percent Yield
A measure of the efficiency of a chemical reaction, calculated as (actual yield/theoretical yield) x 100.
