Relative Contraindications
acute fracture within the pelvis or lower extremity, DVT, cancer of pelvis, instability of the hip joint, arthritis of the hip
Pelvic Landmarks to Palpate
iliac crest, ASIS, PSIS, pubic symphysis, pubic tubercle
Anterior Innominate Muscle Energy

Anterior Innominate and Inferior Pubic Shear Muscle Energy Patient Position
supine, flex and adduct affected hip
Inferior Pubic Shear Muscle Energy

Posterior Innominate Muscle Energy

Posterior Innominate and Superior Pubic Shear Muscle Energy Patient Position
supine, extend affected hip off of the side of the table while pracitioner holds down opposite asis
Superior Pubic Shear Muscle Energy

Innominate Inflare Muscle Energy

Innominate Inflare Muscle Energy Patient Position
supine, flex knee of affected side with foot flat on table, pracitioner holds down opposite ASIS and pushes knee laterally
Innominate Outflare Muscle Energy

Innominate Outflare Muscle Energy Patient Position
supine, flex knee of affected side with foot flat on table, pracitioner pulls affected side psis laterally and pushes knee medially
Superior Innominate Shear Muscle Energy

Superior Innominate Shear Muscle Energy Patient Position
supine, abduct and internally rotate leg of affected side, practitioner leans back
Inferior Innominate Shear Muscle Energy

Inferior Innominate Shear Muscle Energy Patient Position
supine, abduct and internally rotate affected leg then place foot on practitioner’s knee, grab unaffected ankle and adduct unaffected leg with external rotation
push affected leg superiorly
Public Muscle Energy/Thrust

Public Muscle Energy/Thrust Patient Position
supine with legs flexed and feet on table
first, pracitioner holds outside of knees and instructs patient to abduct them
second, pracitioner puts hands between knees and instructs patient to adduct them
Muscles Used to Correct Anterior Rotation/Inferior Pubic Shear
gluteus maximus and biceps femoris
Muscles Used to Correct Posterior Rotation/Superior Pubic Shear
primarily iliopsoas, may see rectus femoris or sartorius
Muscles Used to Correct Inflare
adductors (longus, brevis, magnus), may see gracilis or pectineus
Muscles Used to Correct Outflare
abductors (glut med and min)
Muscles Used to Correct Superior and Inferior Innominate Shear
quadratus lumborum, obliques internus and externus
