Setup Time (tsetup)
The minimum time before the clock edge that the data input must remain stable, given as 25ps.
Hold Time (thold)
The minimum time after the clock edge that the data input must remain stable, given as 25ps.
Clock-to-Q Delay (tclk-q / tcq)
The time required for the flip-flop output Q to reflect the input data after the arrival of a clock edge, specified as 10ps.
Clock Skew (tskew)
The variation in clock arrival times between different flip-flops in a synchronous system, given as 4ps in Question 2.
Setup Time Inequality
The timing constraint tcq+(tcomb)max≤Tclock+tskew−tsetup, rearranged to find minimum period as Tclock≥tcq+tcomb, max+tsetup−tskew.
Minimum Clock Period (Tmin for Question 2)
The minimum allowable period of 341ps, dictated by the critical path through flip-flop 1 and CL1 (T≥10+310+25−4=341ps).
Buffer Insertion for Hold Violations
The process of fixing hold time violations by inserting delay buffers with tpd=tcd=2ps along the data path.
Path 2 Period Requirement (Question 2)
The timing limit through combinational block CL2, evaluated as T≥10+260+25−4=291ps.
Path 3 Period Requirement (Question 2)
The timing limit through flip-flop 5 and combinational block CL3, evaluated as T≥10+100+25−4=131ps.
Combinational Propagation Delay (tp,max)
The maximum delay through a combinational logic block, representing the worst-case path between sequential elements.
Combinational Contamination Delay (tp,min)
The minimum delay through a combinational logic block, representing the fastest possible path used to evaluate hold time constraints.
