What are the minimum power application and maximum operation Engine Oil Temperature limits?
-10o C and 1150 C
Engine Oil Temperature High - Procedure
OEI flight condition - Establish
Affected engine - Identify
Twist grip (affected engine) - Adjust to 20-30% torque (TWIST GRIP caution indication comes on)
Oil temperature indicator (affected engine) - Monitor
If engine oil temperature decreases below limit:
LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
If engine oil temperature still remains above limit:
Single engine emergency shutdown - Perform
LAND AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE
Double Engine Failure - Flight
Autorotation - Perform
Settling with power is defined as:
a condition of powered flight in which the helicopter settles in its own downwash.
What three conditions must exist simultaneously for settling with power to occur?
A vertical or near vertical descent of at least 300 fpm. Actual crictical rate depends on gross weight, rotor rpm, Density Altitude, and other pertinent facotrs
Slow forward airspeed (less than ETL)
Rotor system must be using 20-100% of the available engine power with insufficient power remaining to arrest the descent. Low rotor RPM could aggravate this.
Name at least three of the six flight conditions that are conducive to settling with power:
Steep approach at a high rate of descent
Downwind approach
Formation flight approach
Hovering above the maximum hover ceiling
Not maintaining constant altitude control during an OGE hover
During masking/unmasking
