what is the difference between work and power

Work is the total amount of energy transferred when a force moves an object over a distance whereas power is the rate at which that work is done or energy is transferred over time.

2

When a ball is thrown, and it falls.if the ball and the earth exert equal and opposite forces on each other, as Newton’s third law alleges, why doesn’t the earth “fall up” to meet the ball?

The forces are equal, but the accelerations are not. Equal causes can produce very unequal effects.

3
New cards

Newton’s third law

whenever one body exerts a force on a second body, the second body simultaneously exerts a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction on the first body.

4
New cards

Newton’s second law states

In an interaction between two objects of different mass, the lighter mass will do essentially all of the accelerating even though the forces exerted on the two objects are equal.

5
New cards

if two objects A and B move together what are there acceleration constraints

their accelerations are constrained to be equal

6
New cards

what happens when an object interacts with each other

they form action/reaction pair

7

Explain to a 6th grader what Newton’s third law is

Newton’s third law is a real-world concept that states that every action done to an object will have equal reaction. It’s when you push on a wall you put force onto that wall while the wall puts force on you also.

8
New cards

restoring force

A force that restores a system to an equilibrium position

9
New cards

system

those objects whose motion and interactions we wish to

analyze

10
New cards

environment

objects external to the system but exerting forces

on the system.

11
New cards

energy

the ability to do work

12
New cards

explain central force

force that acts on an object and is always directed either directly toward or directly away from a single fixed point called the center of force.

13
New cards

Explain zero potential energy to Atlantian

zero potential energy is a chosen reference point for where potential energy of system. Just like how the sea floor is considered chosen reference point for the ground.

14
New cards

why does the water stay in bucket?

he fast swing provides enough centripetal force (inward pull from the circular motion and the bottom of the bucket) to match or exceed the pull of gravity

15
New cards

why is k negative?

there to show that the restoring force always opposes the displacement — it points in the opposite direction to how the spring is stretched or compressed.
