Lordship — Rububiyyah

It is affirming the Oneness of Allah in His actions—Glorified be He—such as creation, provision, managing affairs, giving life, causing death, and the like.

=To believe that there is no creator except Allah, no provider except Allah, no disposer of affairs except Allah.

Godship — Uluhiyyah

It is affirming the Oneness of Allah through the actions of the servants, which He commanded them to perform. Thus, all types of worship are directed to Allah alone without any partner, such as supplication, fear, trust, seeking aid, seeking refuge, and other than that.

- And this type of Tawheed is that which the Messengers (peace be upon them) were sent with. - And this type of Tawheed is what the disbelievers rejected in ancient and modern times.

Oneness of Names and Attributes — Tawhid al-asma’ wal-sifat

It is believing in all the names and attributes of Allah mentioned in the Holy Qur'an and Sunnah—those with which He described Himself or His Messenger described Him with.

first foundation: glorifying Allah.

It rests on two ideas:

  • Allah is absolutely great.

  • We are weak and need Him.

Think: “Allah provides for me, and I depend on Him.” Recognizing this should affect how you behave.

How do we show it?

- Depend on Allah.

- Respect His rituals, such as prayer and fasting.

- Put Allah first.

- Repent immediately after sinning.

✍ Short exam answer:

We glorify Allah by depending on Him, respecting His rituals, putting Him first, and repenting after sins.

Qur’anic evidence:

“O mankind, you are those in need of Allah, while Allah is the Free of need, the Praiseworthy.” [35:15]

Meaning: We need Allah; Allah does not need us.

Secondly: Complete Love.

What does complete love mean?

It means loving Allah above yourself, other people, and everything else.

Does Allah love people?

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said,

"If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel, saying, 'Allah loves so and so, O Gabriel love him' So Gabriel would love him and then would make an announcement in the Heavens: 'Allah has loved so and-so therefore you should love him also. 'So all the dwellers of the Heavens would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth."

How to earn the love of Allah?

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Allah the Exalted has said: 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved thing with which My slave comes nearer to Me is what I have obligated upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (prayer or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him. When I love him, I become his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks (something) from Me, I give him, and if he asks My Protection (refuge), I protect him"

Fortune teller the Prophet ﷺ said,

"He who goes to one who claims to tell

about matters of the Unseen and believes in him, his Salat (prayers) will not

be accepted for forty days." And this punishment is just for asking whether he

believes him or not.

Showing off/Riyaa

is performing acts of worship to be seen, admired, or

praised by people instead of seeking Allah's pleasure.

The Prophet once came out and announced, ‘O people, beware of the secret

shirk!’ The Companions asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is secret shirk?’

He replied, ‘When a man gets up to offer Salah and strives to perform it to

perfection because people are looking at him; that is secret shirk.’
