Phrase
A component of a clause that expresses a single idea but does not form a complete sentence.
Prepositional Phrase

Participial Phrase
A verb that functions as an adjective and ends in -ing (present) or -ed, -en, -d, -t, -n, or -ne (past).

Appositive
A noun that immediately follows and renames another noun to clarify or classify it.
Dependent Clause
A group of words that contains a subject and verb but does not express a complete thought.
Independent Clause
A group of words that contains a subject and verb and expresses a complete thought.
