Vital, animal, and natural

Vital Spirits

A type of spirit. Centered in the heart and carries life throughout the body.

Animal Spirits

A type of spirit. Centered in the brain and is responsibile for thought and sensation.

Natural Spirits

Centered in the liver. Associated with basic metabolic processes.

What is the hierarchy of soul functionalities?

Reproduction, movement, and intellection.

What are the degrees of the souls?

Vegetative, sensitive, and rational.

How do bodies and souls interact with one another?

With the animal spirit, argued by Donne, in the humorism vision. Allows for thoughts to be conveyed into action, and to ‘do office' or the duties that the soul wills for the body.

Vegatative Soul

Possessed in plants. Enables growth and reproduction, takes in nutrients and reproduces itself. Relates to the organs and genitals.

Sensitive Soul

Possessed by animals. Enables feeling, movement and perception. Allows to sense and feel sensation.

Rational Soul

Possessed by humans. Enables discourse- speaking and writing- and understanding. Allows for humans to make judgements and pursue intellectual endeavours.

What do animal spirits do?

Make sense of feelings and images. They are hanmaidens of the soul, interacting with the body.

What are spirits?

The balm that unites body and soul, allowing the soul to perform actions with the body.

How is affliction a treasure?

It is the test of God; it is medicine and allows us to correct our errors and try our virtues. Having none of it is a sign of weakness, as faith and virtue are never tested in times of struggle.

What is the connection between spirits and affliction?

As the humoral system and the bound bridge between spirits are never balanced, affliction allows for the body and soul to communicate to self-reflect and engage in spiritual inventory.

Blood

One of the humoral liquids. Represents air, spring, childhood, and sanguine. Warm and moist. Connected with the liver.

Yellow Bile

One of the humoral liquids. Represents fire, youth, summer, and chloeric/anger. Warm and dry. Connected with the spleen.

Black Bile

One of the humoral liquids. Represents earth, maturity, autumn, and melachonly. Cold and dry. Connected with the gall bladder.

Phlegm

One of the humoral liquids. Represents water, old age, winter, and the feeling ‘phlegmatic'- unemotional. Cold and moist. Connected with the lungs and sometimes the brain.

What are the four humors associated with?

Elements of the university, seasons, qualities- etc.

Weirdo Categories

Insections that aren't apart of the body, but allows the body to navigate the world as medical moral. Are based on how people judge you for managing these categories.

Diet

The first category. Holds effect on the animal spirit and your soul. Asks about your consumption.

Extretion and Retention

The second category. Self explanatory.

Passion and Emotion

One of the categories. Holds an effect on health and the heart. Certain emotions can make you sick, and can destroy your inner core.
