Grand Canal

A vast and ancient waterway system, stretching from Beijing in the north to Zhejiang province in the south. It's the longest artificial river and canal system in the world, playing a vital role in connecting different parts of the country and facilitating transportation and trade. Construction began in sections as early as the 5th century BC, with a unified system conceived during the Sui Dynasty (7th century AD).

Monsoon Winds

Seasonal winds that reverse direction depending on the time of year, bringing distinct wet and dry seasons to many regions. They were essential to trade and often dictated when ships would begin journeys.
