Exam Curriculum Scope
Covers the 2018 General Education Program (GDPT 2018) for lower secondary level (THCS), implemented up to the end of week 2 of December 2025.
Group A Cognitive Allocation (Bảng A)
Specifies 20% - 40% for Know and Understand (Biết và hiểu) and 60% - 80% for Apply (Vận dụng).
Group B Cognitive Allocation (Bảng B)

Exam Format for Essay-Only Subjects
Mathematics, Literature (Ngữ văn), and Civic Education (Giáo dục công dân) are conducted entirely in essay format (tự luận).
Exam Format for Combined Subjects
Natural Science (Khoa học tự nhiên) and History and Geography (Lịch sử và Địa lí) combine multiple-choice questions with essay sections.
Informatics Exam Format
Requires direct computer programming in Scratch, C++, or Python to solve specified problems.
Natural Science Time Limit
Allocates 45 minutes for the multiple-choice section and 105 minutes for the essay section.
History and Geography Time Limit
Allocates 30 minutes for the multiple-choice section and 120 minutes for the essay section.
General Subject Time Limit
A standard total duration of 150 minutes is assigned to subjects other than Natural Science and History & Geography.
Natural Science Common Part Structure
Consists of 24 multiple-choice questions (0.25 points each, totaling 6.0 points) focusing mainly on Know and Understand cognitive levels.
Natural Science Optional Part Structure
Candidates choose 1 of 3 options (KHTN 1, KHTN 2, or KHTN 3) in essay format, worth 14.0 points (70% of total grade).
KHTN 2 Theory vs Calculation Breakdown
Chemistry content (KHTN 2) allocates 70% to 75% to theoretical knowledge and 25% to 30% to calculations.
KHTN 3 Subject Breakdown
Biology content comprises Grade 8 topics (3 questions, totaling 7.0 points) and Grade 9 topics (2 questions, totaling 7.0 points).
History and Geography Common Part Structure
Consists of 16 multiple-choice questions (0.25 points each, totaling 4.0 points / 20%), split into 8 Know questions (10%) and 8 Understand questions (10%).
Mandatory History and Geography Common Topics
Covers Urban areas: History and present; Red River and Mekong Deltas civilizations; and Protecting Vietnam's sovereignty, rights, and legitimate interests in Biển Đông.
Geography Optional Section Restrictions
Candidates cannot use Atlat Địa lí Việt Nam, no chart-drawing questions are given, and each essay question is capped at 3.5 points.
Informatics Exam Structure
Includes 04 questions totaling 20.0 points: Q1 (6.0 pts) on arithmetic programming; Q2 (5.0 pts) on data structures; Q3 (5.0 pts) on sorting/searching algorithms; and Q4 (4.0 pts) on basic algorithms requiring optimization of time and memory.
Mathematics Exam Section Distribution
Includes 06 questions distributed across Arithmetic (2.0 to 3.5 points), Algebra (6.0 to 8.0 points), Geometry (7.0 to 9.0 points), and Probability & Statistics (1.5 to 2.5 points).
Literature Exam Structure

Literature Reading Source Criteria
Passages must be selected from outside textbooks, contain accurate and healthy content, and have a word length of 500 to 1500 words.
Civic Education Score Allocation
Comprises Grade 8 topics (1-2 questions, 6 points), Grade 9 topics (2-3 questions, 10 points), and 1 question on personal perspective regarding social issues (4 points).
English Exam Total Score and Breakdown
Total of 200 points divided into Listening (50 pts, max 20 min, 30 questions), Grammar & Vocabulary (20 pts, ~20 min, 20 questions), Reading (70 pts, 50 min, 50 questions), and Writing (60 pts, 60 min).
CEFR Standards for English Exam
Listening and Reading sections require CEFR level B1 or higher for Table A (Bảng A) and A2 or higher for Table B (Bảng B).
French Exam Structure
Total score of 100 points comprising Listening (15 min, 10 true/false questions, A2 level), Reading (25 min, 200-250 words, A2-B1 level), Language Knowledge (40 min, 8 main topics), and Writing (20 min, 100-150 words).
