Parts of Speech

Noun

person, place, thing, or idea (ex. teacher, Needham, water bottle, peace)

Pronoun

replaces a noun to avoid repetition (ex. he, she, it, they)

Verb

shows an action or a state of being (ex. run, hop, happen, is)

Adjective

describing word (ex. pink, big, happy, fun)

Adverb

a word that tells how, when, why, or where a verb, adjective, or another adverb is (ex. quickly, very, yesterday, crazy)

Preposition

shows the relationship between a noun/pronoun and another word, showing time, place, or direction (ex. in, on, at, through)

Conjunction

connects words, phrases, or clauses (ex, and, but, because, although)

Interjection

Expresses strong emotion of surprise (ex. Wow!, Ouch!, Ew!, Boo!)
