1/9
Vocabulary flashcards covering organic chemistry addition and substitution reaction mechanisms, including reagents and regiochemical rules.
Hydrohalogenation
A reaction using reagents such as HBr that places a halogen on the most substituted carbocation.
Acid-Catalyzed Hydration
A reaction using H2SO4 and H2O that produces an OH group on the most substituted carbocation.
Hydroboration Oxidation
A reaction using 1. BH3, THF and 2. NaOH that produces an OH group on the less substituted carbon.
Halogenation
A reaction using Br2 that produces two halogens added across a double bond.
Halohydrin Formation
A reaction using Br2 and H2O that adds X and OH, placing the OH on the most substituted carbon.
Syn dihydro-Oxidation
A reaction using OsO4 that adds two OH groups onto the same face.
Catalytic Hydrogenation
A reaction using H2 and Pt that adds H to both carbons of a double bond.
Free Radical Halogenation
A reaction using Br2 and hν that replaces an H with a halogen (X).
Ozonolysis
A reaction using 1. O3 that breaks the C=C double bond.
Allylic Bromination
A reaction using NBS and hν that replaces an allylic H with Br.
