Flashcards covering the fundamentals of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), including core definitions, purposes, facility and premises requirements, process validation, and personnel standards.
What does the acronym GMP stand for?
Good Manufacturing Practice
How is GMP defined in the context of regulatory agencies?
A guideline laid down by agencies which control authorization and licensing for manufacture and sale of food, drug products, and active pharmaceutical products.
What are the two main purposes of GMP?
Why must environmental conditions be controlled according to the basic principles of GMP?
In order to prevent cross contamination.
Why are all critical manufacturing processes validated under GMP?
To ensure consistency and compliance with specifications.
How must manufacturing instructions and procedures be written under GMP?
They must be written in clear and unambiguous language.
What role do manufacturing and distribution records play under GMP principles?
They demonstrate that all steps required by defined procedures were taken and enable the complete history of a batch to be traced in a comprehensible and accessible form.
What provisions must an establishment provide to comply with GMP?
Sufficient Space, Physical Separation, Adequate Lighting, Adequate Ventilation, Equipment and utensils, and Adequate facilities for every operation.
What are the general GMP building maintenance and housekeeping requirements?
The building must be maintained and kept in good condition, and there must be regular housekeeping.
What are the six GMP requirements for building premises?
What problems are caused by inadequate space and unnecessary traffic in building premises?
Mix-up and errors.
From what outside elements and contaminants must a GMP building be protected?
Infiltration of contaminants and outside elements such as dust, odors, filth, and pests.
Why is adequate space critical when designing a plant under GMP?
It is critical to plant productivity, personnel safety, and the quality of the product.
What is expected of personnel regarding their job performance and competency under GMP?
They should know how to perform the job right the first time and every time, possess the required knowledge and skills, and take personal responsibility to develop personal competence.
What four outcomes result from having trained personnel in a GMP manufacturing environment?
