Scale
The relationship of a distance on a map to the corresponding distance on the ground.
Scale of Analysis
Observation of data at the global, national, regional, and/or local scale.
Global Scale of Analysis
An analysis that does not use country boundaries to present information, showing a global pattern where map data is not connected to any one country.
National Scale of Analysis
An analysis where data and information are organized by country and connected to specific countries.
Regional Scale of Analysis
An analysis displayed in a variety of ways, such as organizing information from a national scale map into different Federal Reserve districts.
Sub-national Scale
A scale below the national scale, which includes looking at a map of a city, country regions, region, or census tract.
Small Scale Map
A map that is zoomed out, showing a large portion of the Earth's surface with less details in the data displayed.
Large Scale Map
A map that is zoomed in, showing less of the Earth's surface with more details in the data displayed.
