Broca's Aphasia
Expressive difficulty producing fluent speech while comprehension remains relatively intact.
Wernicke's Aphasia
Receptive difficulty understanding speech, producing fluent but meaningless or nonsensical sentences.
Contralateral Hemispheric Organization
The structural organization wherein each cerebral hemisphere controls sensory and motor functions for the opposite side of the body.
Plasticity
The brain's capacity to modify its structural organization and adapt to experience, learning, or injury by forming new neural pathways.
EEG (Electroencephalogram)
An amplified recording of waves of electrical activity sweeping across the brain's surface, measured by electrodes placed on the scalp.
fMRI (Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
A brain imaging technique that detects changes in blood flow and oxygen consumption to highlight active brain areas during specific tasks.
Lesioning
The surgical or experimental destruction or removal of brain tissue to observe the resulting changes in behavior.
