latitude

a measure of a location's distance north or south of the equator

longitude

a location's distance east or west of the prime meridian

absolute location

an exact point on Earth's surface identified by latitude and longitude

prime meridian

the imaginary line drawn around Earth at zero degrees longitude that divides Earth into eastern and western hemispheres

equator

the imaginary line drawn around Earth at zero degrees latitude that divides Earth into northern and southern hemispheres

coordinates

a pair of numbers and/or letters that use a grid to identify a specific location

grid

a series of horizontal and vertical lines that cross each other to divide an area into sections
