Hypogonadism
Reduced function of testes resulting in low testosterone
Primary: problem originates in testes; LH and FSH will be elevated
Secondary: problem originates in hypothalamus or pituitary; LH and FSH will be low-normal
Erectile dysfunction
Inability to achieve or maintain erection
Benign prostatic hyperplasia
non-cancerous growth of prostate gland resulting in urethral constriction
Associated with advanced age
Exogenous Testosterone & Infertility
Exogenous testosterone decreases spermatogenesis due to negative feedback of HPG axis
Low GnRH, FSH, LH
Although serum testosterone increases, testosterone levels in testes are reduced
Typically results in oligospermia (low sperm count) or azoospermia (absence of sperm) and causes reversible male infertility
