AS 100
Milestones in Aviation History
Aerospace Science 100 is the first level Air Force Junior ROTC course. This course focuses on
the history of flight and leadership. Students will learn about the origins of flight, the
development of air power, the role of military aerospace forces in our society, and practical uses
of aircraft. Students will be evaluated on their knowledge of these areas through tests and quizzes.
AS 200
The Science of Flight
Aerospace Science 200 is the second level Air Force Junior ROTC course. This course focuses on
the science of flight. Students will learn about the scientific principles governing aircraft flight,
basic aircraft structures, the nature of the aerospace environment, navigation principles, and
techniques for flying an aircraft.
AS 220
Cultural Studies: An Introduction to Global Awareness
Aerospace Science 220 focuses on the world’s cultures through the study of world affairs,
regional studies, and cultural awareness. Students will learn about history, geography, religions,
languages, culture, political systems, economics, and social issues. Throughout the course, there
are readings, video segments, hands-on activities, technology enrichment, assessments, and
additional optional activities.
AS 300
Exploring Space: The High Frontier
Aerospace Science 300 is a science course that focuses on the latest information available in
space science and exploration. It provides an in-depth study of the Earth, Sun, stars, Moon, and
our solar system, including the terrestrial and outer planets. Students will learn about the human
aspect of space flight, focusing on the human experience in space.
Leadership education curriculum
Leadership education is an integral part of annual instruction. This
program is run by cadets and organized as a military unit or business. Cadets who hold leadership
positions will be responsible for hiring, training, counseling, and removing (if necessary) their staff. The
curriculum will contain a variety of tests and quizzes, and may include but not be limited to the following:
LE 100
Traditions, Wellness, and Foundations of Citizenship
Customs & Courtesies; Flag of the United States; Uniform & Personal Appearance; Attitude &
Discipline; Drug & Alcohol Abuse; Individual Self Control, Wellness, Health, Fitness, and
Communicative Skills (3-5 Minute Speech).
LE 200
Communication, Awareness, and Leadership
Communication Skills; Effective Writing; Speaking (5-7 Minute Speech); Human Relations;
Understanding Group Behavior; Basic Leadership Techniques; Advanced Drill & Ceremonies.
LE 300
Life Skills and Career Opportunities
Management Theories; Systems of Government; Human Relations; Managing Things and Ideas;
Citizenship; Ethics; Communication Skills; Speech; Advanced Drill & Ceremonies. In addition,
qualified 3rd year cadets may be assigned to responsible staff positions.
LE 400
Fundamentals of Management
The Leaders; The Situation; Ethics; Communication Skills; Decision Making; Advanced Human Relations; and Air Force Programs & opportunities. This hands-on experience offers the cadets
the opportunity to put the theories of previous leadership and aerospace courses into practice.
They will also put into practice their communication, personal interaction, managerial, and
organizational skills. They will:
a. Apply the theories and techniques learned in previous leadership courses
b. Develop leadership and management competency through participation
c. Strengthen organizational skills through active incorporation
d. Develop confidence in their abilities by exercising decision-making skills
e. Apply Air Force standards, discipline, and conduct
Drill and ceremonies
As part of the Leadership Education curriculum, cadets will be evaluated and graded each
promotion cycle on Drill & Ceremonies. Drill is an important part of the JROTC curriculum. It is
necessary that each cadet learns and becomes proficient in drill during the first semester. All
cadets must participate in drill. If a cadet is not physically able to participate, he/she must have a
signed doctor’s excuse. If not, the cadet will be sent to the nurse's office. Cadets who do not have
a written doctor’s excuse and do not participate will receive a grade of zero for that day.
Cadet SS curiculum AS 400
Aerospace Science 400: Management of the Cadet Corps
All CA-935 Cadet Corps Senior Staff will be enrolled in Aerospace Science 400: Management of the Cadet Corps. AS 400 is intended for 4th year cadets who hold corps management positions and affords
cadets the opportunity to put theories of previous leadership courses into practice. Cadets will participate
in planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and decision-making. They will put into practice their
communication, personal interaction, managerial, and organizational skills. Instructors should keep in
mind that, since there is no textbook for this course, the course syllabus will be structured so that cadets
achieve course objectives by completing corps management activities.
