Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR)
An upper respiratory infection in young kittens and older cats caused by a type 1 herpes virus.
Type 1 Herpes Virus
The specific viral agent responsible for causing Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR).
Herpes Virus Contagiousness
The characteristic of all herpes viruses being very contagious in susceptible animals.
FVR Symptoms
Clinical signs of FVR including sniffling, sneezing, coughing, ocular and nasal discharge, fever, dehydration, and weight loss.
FVR Care Strategy
Hospitalization and aggressive supportive care required for young kittens so their immune system can overcome the debilitating infection.
Calicivirus
An infectious viral disease in cats ranging from mild asymptomatic illness to acute, severe pneumonia.
Calicivirus Ulcer Sites
Ulcers caused by Calicivirus that form in the mouth, nasal passages, and the conjunctiva of the eye.
Conjunctiva
The membrane of the eye where ulcers can develop during a Calicivirus infection.
Dehydration
A systemic symptom listed alongside fever and weight loss in cats suffering from FVR.
