How we interact with our entire world, it’s human, symbolic, and a process → Spoken Words, Photos, Music, Dance, Gestures, Facial Expressions, Emojis,etc.
Intrapersonal Communication
Communication you have with yourself, how you assign meaning to the world
Interpersonal Communication
Communication between two people, can be verbal or nonverbal
Small Group Communication
Every person can participate + roles of leader and audience interchangeable
Public Communication
Group becomes to large for all to contribute + Unequal amount of speaking and limited feedback
Mass Communication
Uses technology to send messages to a large mixed audience who’s members are not known to sender
Identity
Who you are, the characteristics that make you different
Primary Identity
Those that have the most consistent and enduring impact on our lives (Race, Gender, Nationality)
Secondary Identity
More fluid and more dependent on situation (College, Major, Occupation, etc.)
Reflected Appraisal
Describes how our self-image is formed from the way others view us
Social Comparisons
Compare ourselves to others to determine how we measure up then evaluate ourselves
Self-Fulfilling Prophecy
When an individual expects something to occur, the expectation increases the likelihood that it will
