What is lymph?
A clear fluid that travels through the lymphatic system, containing white blood cells.
What are lymphatic vessels?
Vessels that transport lymph throughout the body.
What are lymph nodes?
Small, bean-shaped structures that filter lymph and trap pathogens.
What is the spleen?
An organ that filters blood and helps fight infections.
What is the thymus?
A gland where T-cells mature; important for immune function.
What are tonsils?
Lymphoid tissues that help protect against pathogens entering through the mouth and nose.
What are lacteals?
Specialized lymph vessels in the intestines that absorb fats.
What are alveoli?
Tiny air sacs in the lungs where gas exchange occurs.
What are bronchi?
Major air passages that branch from the trachea into the lungs.
What are bronchioles?
Smaller branches of the bronchi that lead to the alveoli.
What is the diaphragm?
A dome-shaped muscle that aids in breathing by changing the volume of the thoracic cavity.
What is the epiglottis?
A flap that covers the trachea during swallowing to prevent food from entering the airway.
What is the larynx?
Also known as the voice box; involved in sound production and protecting the trachea.
What is the pharynx?
The throat; a passageway for food and air.
What is the trachea?
The windpipe; a tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi.
What is the aorta?
The largest artery in the body that carries oxygenated blood from the heart.
What are arteries?
Blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood away from the heart.
What are veins?
Blood vessels that carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart.
What are capillaries?
Tiny blood vessels where the exchange of gases and nutrients occurs.

Structures within the heart that prevent backflow of blood.
What is plasma?
The liquid component of blood that carries cells, nutrients, hormones, and waste products.

Voluntary muscle attached to bones that facilitates movement.
What is cardiac muscle?
Involuntary muscle that makes up the heart.
What is smooth muscle?
Involuntary muscle found in the walls of organs and blood vessels.
What are tendons?
Connective tissues that attach muscles to bones.
What is fascia?
Connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs.
