Resource
Anything that is environmentally available, technologically accessible, culturally acceptable, and capable of meeting human needs, encompassing material objects like water and soil as well as non-material attributes like knowledge and health.
Natural Resources
Resources obtained directly from nature without human creation, such as air and minerals.
Man-made Resources
Resources created by human beings to meet various needs, such as roads and machinery.
Renewable Resources
Resources that do not get depleted with use and can be used continuously, such as sunlight, wind, waves, and water.
Non-renewable Resources
Resources formed over millions of years whose total available quantity decreases with consumption, such as iron, gold, coal, and petroleum.
Mumbai High
One of the largest offshore oil fields in India, discovered in 1974, located 160km away in the Arabian Sea and managed by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC).
Human Resources
Humans categorized as resources because of their capability to create new resources using their abilities, skills, and technology.
Mining
The process of finding and extracting valuable materials from the Earth's surface or underground, classified broadly into surface mining and underground mining.
Minerals
Naturally forming organic and inorganic substances characterized by distinct chemical and physical properties, such as petroleum, iron ore, and bauxite.
Ore
The raw, impure form of a mineral extracted from the Earth's crust that must undergo refining processes to yield valuable minerals.
Metallic Minerals
Naturally occurring substances containing traces of metal from which hard and lustrous metals are extracted through refining, such as aluminium extracted from bauxite.
Ferrous Metals
Metallic minerals containing iron that are characteristically grey in appearance, magnetic in nature, and heavy.
Non-ferrous Metals
Metallic minerals that do not contain iron, display diverse colours, are non-magnetic, and are relatively light weight.
Iron Ore
A mineral classified into four distinct types based on iron content: Magnetite, Hematite, Limonite, and Siderite.
Magnetite
A specific type of iron ore commonly designated as 'black ore', with notable deposits found in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Goa, and Andhra Pradesh.
Non-metallic Minerals
Minerals that lack metallic elements and display relatively low levels of hardness, lustre, and ductility compared to metallic minerals.
Organic Minerals
A subcategory of non-metallic minerals, also called biominerals, that contain organic components, exemplified by coal and petroleum.
Inorganic Minerals
Non-metallic minerals composed of inorganic components rather than biological matter, exemplified by graphite and clay.
Graphite
An inorganic non-metallic mineral primarily utilized in the manufacture of pencils.
Copper
A metallic mineral extensively used in the production of electrical equipment and coins.
Manufacturing Industry
An industrial sector where raw materials are processed through machinery to produce higher-value finished goods intended for local and distant markets.
Agro-based Industry
A manufacturing industry classification that relies on agricultural products as primary raw materials, exemplified by the sugar industry.
Mineral-based Industry
A manufacturing industry classification that utilizes mined minerals as raw materials, exemplified by the iron and steel industry.
Chemical Industry
A category of manufacturing industry based on chemical raw materials and processing, exemplified by the petroleum industry.
Forest-based Industry
A manufacturing industry sector that processes resources harvested from forests, exemplified by the paper industry.
Animal-based Industry
A manufacturing classification that relies on materials sourced from animals, exemplified by the leather industry.
Heavy Industry
Industries such as iron and steel that process large quantities of bulky raw materials and manufacture massive, heavy finished products.
Basic Industry
An industry whose products serve as indispensable raw materials for other manufacturing operations, such as the iron and steel industry supplying materials for machinery and automobiles.
Cotton Industry
A major Indian agro-manufacturing industry distributed across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Silk Industry
A major textile industry distributed across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Odisha, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
