Cutaneous Blood Vessels
Blood vessels located in the skin that contribute to thermoregulation and blood supply.
Keratin
A protein found in the epidermis, hair, and nails that provides structure and protection.
Stratum Corneum
The outermost layer of the epidermis, composed of dead cells that provide a barrier.
Stratum Germinativum
The deepest layer of the epidermis where new skin cells are generated.
Hypodermis
The layer beneath the dermis that contains adipose tissue and supports the dermis.
Accessory Organs of the Skin
Structures such as nails, hair, and glands (sebaceous and sweat) that are associated with the skin.
Melanin
A pigment produced by melanocytes that gives skin its color and protects against UV radiation.
Cyanosis
A bluish discoloration of the skin due to insufficient oxygenation, often related to hypoxemia.
Alopecia
The loss of hair from the scalp or other parts of the body.
Sebaceous Glands
Glands in the skin that secrete sebum, an oily substance that lubricates and waterproofs the skin.
