Vocabulary flashcards covering the definitions and properties of special parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, and squares from Integrated 2 Unit 2.
Parallelogram
A quadrilateral with both pairs of opposite sides parallel.
Opposite Sides Property of a Parallelogram
If a quadrilateral is a parallelogram, then its opposite sides are congruent.
Opposite Angles Property of a Parallelogram
If a quadrilateral is a parallelogram, then its opposite angles are congruent.
Consecutive Angles Property of a Parallelogram
If a quadrilateral is a parallelogram, then its consecutive angles are supplementary, meaning they add up to 180^\bar{o}.
Diagonals Property of a Parallelogram
If a quadrilateral is a parallelogram, then its diagonals bisect each other.
Rhombus
A quadrilateral with four congruent sides, perpendicular diagonals, and diagonals that bisect opposite angles.
Rectangle
A quadrilateral with opposite sides congruent, four congruent right angles (90^\bar{o}), and congruent diagonals.
Square
A quadrilateral with four congruent sides and four congruent right angles (90^\bar{o}), possessing all properties of both a rhombus and a rectangle.
Diagonals of a Rhombus
Diagonals that are perpendicular to each other and bisect the corner (opposite) angles.
Diagonals of a Rectangle
Diagonals that are congruent to each other and bisect each other.
Quadrilateral HELP
A quadrilateral defined by HE=EL=LP=PH, making its most specific name a rhombus.
Quadrilateral DOGS
A quadrilateral where segment DG is perpendicular to segment OS, making its most specific name a rhombus.
