“He sank to his knees”
W/C - Highlights Mr Midas's feeling of despair, as he realises how serious his consequences are because of his greed.
"It was that then I started to scream."
Opening sentence - The tone has changed, becoming extremely negative, highlighting that Mrs Midas is now terrified of her husbands power
“Separate beds”
Short opening sentence - Is ubruct, highlighting how much damage Midas's gift has done to their relationship. There is a loss of intimacy.
“Unwrapping each other, like presents, fast food”
Simile - Compares undressing each other, to opening a gift or something that has been longed for or really wanted. Their past relationship is in contrast with the relationship that they have now.
“Burned in my breasts”
Alliteration - This highlights that the plosive B sound suggests that the harsh reality of not being able to have children is a great pain.
“I dreamt I bore his child.”
W/C - This highlights how much Mrs Midas wanted children, but this is now a fantasy and will never happen.
