Conduction
The process of heat transfer from the hotter part of an object to the colder part, where heated particles pass heat to their neighbours without moving from their positions.
Good conductors of heat
Materials, such as metals, that allow heat to pass through them easily.
Poor conductors (insulators) of heat
Materials, such as glass and wood, that do not allow heat to pass through them easily.
Clay and porcelain
Materials that are poor conductors of heat, which helps tea or coffee kept in cups made from them stay hot longer.
Steel
A material classified in Table 7.2 as a good conductor of heat.
