Nervous System

Connects the brain to the spinal cord.

Thick bundle of nerve fibers running down the spine that carries messages between brain and body.

Stroke detection acronym: Balance, Eyes, Face, Arm, Speech, Time.
Ischemic Stroke
Stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel; treated with clot-dissolving meds or a catheter.
Hemorrhagic Stroke
Stroke caused by bleeding in the brain; treated with surgery to stop bleeding.
Sciatica
Pain radiating from the lumbar spine down the buttocks and leg caused by nerve pinch/pressure.
Shingles
Reactivation of Varicella zoster virus causing painful blisters in a band-like pattern.
Zoster Vaccine
Two-dose recombinant vaccine used to prevent Shingles.
Alzheimer's Disease
Progressive brain cell destruction leading to memory loss, mood changes, and physical confusion.
Cerebral Concussion
Traumatic brain injury from impact causing headache, dizziness, nausea, and light sensitivity.
Concussion Treatment
Observation and strict rest for 10 days, avoiding sports and heavy lifting.
