Bedside commode
A portable toilet where a patient can sit comfortably and urinate or defecate.

Bedpan
It is a receptacle used to collect urine and feces that is designed to fit underneath a patient who is sitting or reclining in bed

Edema
there is an excessive amount of fluid trapped inside the human tissues, most commonly in the hands, arms, feet, ankles, and legs

Micturition
or urination, is the complex physiological process of removing urine from the urinary bladder, which functions as a temporary storage organ

Perineum
anatomical region of the body located between the thighs, specifically stretching from the pubic symphysis anteriorly to the coccyx posteriorly
Perineal care
pericare, is the medical process of cleaning the external genitalia and surrounding perineal structures.

Perineal flushing
a hygienic and therapeutic technique involving the gentle pouring or irrigation of warm water or a prescribed cleansing solution over the perineal area

Puerperium
the medical term for the postpartum period, typically defined as the duration of approximately six weeks following childbirth

Smegma
yellowish-white, substance-like secretion composed of a mixture of shed skin cells, skin oils, and moisture

Urinal
portable, bottle-like receptacle specifically designed for collecting urine

Urinary Retention
a clinical condition characterized by the inability to completely empty the urinary bladder of urine

Regular High-back Bedpan
Best Used For: Patients who can lift their hips/pelvis off the mattress without pain or difficulty.

Slipper or Fracture Bedpan
Best Used For: Patients who cannot raise their hips (e.g., hip fractures, spina bifida, lower-limb body casts, severe pain, or total immobility)

Disposable Pulp Bedpan
Best Used For: Hospitals and long-term care facilities focused on strict infection control and reducing nurse cleanup burden

Commode Pans
Best Used For: Patients who are able to sit upright at the side of the bed but cannot walk to the bathroom

Best Used For: Male patients who have reasonable hand dexterity and can manage placement independently or with minimal assistance.

Male Urinal Without handle:
Best Used For: Facilities using specialized cleaning/sanitizer racks or bedpan washers where handles can obstruct automated washing jets or take up extra storage space

Cygnet Female Urinal
Best Used For: Female patients who are bedbound or seated and need a mess-free alternative to placing a bedpan
Cystocele ("Prolapsed Bladder")
Mechanism: Weak pelvic floor muscles allow anterior vaginal wall & bladder base to herniate into vagina.
Diabetes Mellitus
Mechanism: Hyperglycemia causes osmotic diuresis (glucose exceeds renal threshold)
Diverticula
Mechanism: Outpouchings/sacs in the bladder wall or urethra due to chronic pressure or weakness
Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH)
Mechanism: Enlarged prostate compresses proximal male urethra
