I - Illness -> Am I healthy
M - Medication -> Am I free of prescription or over-the- counter drugs?
S - Stress -> Am I free of pressure
A - Alcohol -> Have I abstained of alcohol in the previous 24h.
F - Fatigue -> Did I get at least 7h of sleep
E - Emotion -> Am I free of emotional upset.
What are some ways we can mitigate risk? 5P's
Pilot - physical fitness, currency, and proficiency
Passengers - Are they fit to fly? Are they comfortable flying?
Plane - Airworthiness and documentation
Programming - Are you proficient using the avionics? Are the GPS databases up to date?
Plan - (NWKRAFT)
What are some ways we can mitigate risk? PAVE
Pilot - Am I ready for this trip (IMSAFE)? Are my certificates/ratings current? Am I proficient?
Aircraft - Is the airplane airworthy (AVIATES)? Required documents (SPARROW)? Is it equipped for the intended operation (ATOMATOFLAMES/FLAPS)? Can it carry the intended passengers/load (weight and balance/fuel)? Performance characteristics?
enVironment - (NWKRAFT) Notams, Weather...
External pressures - Are my passengers/employer pressure? Do I have stress influencing my life?
What are the rules regarding alcohol consumption for flying?
- Within 8 hours
- Blood acohol content BAC of 0.04% or higher
Hazardous attitudes and antidotes? RAIIM
Resignation: The feeling of uselessness or inability or effect change.
-> Antidote: I am not helpless. I can make a difference.
Antiauthority: Disregard for regulations. Don't tell me what to do.
-> Antidote: Follow the rules. They are usually right.
Impulsivity: Acting without thinking
-> Antidote: Not so fast, think first
Ivulnerability: The though that it can’t happen to me
-> Antidote: It could happen to me
Macho: Trying to impress others. You can do it.
-> Antidote: Taking risks is follish
