The sun radiates energy towards the Earth's surface, and most of the light is absorbed by the Earth's surface and converted into heat. The Earth's surface then radiates this heat back towards the atmosphere in the form of infrared radiation. Greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap some of this infrared radiation and re-emit it in all directions, including back towards the Earth's surface.

The carbon cycle is the process by which the earth reuses carbon atoms through the different spheres. carbon dioxide in the atmosphere → absorbed by plants through photosynthesis → goes into the lithosphere (ground) with decaying plants → stays underground with dead animals and plants → some can turn into fossil fuels underground → can be taken in for root respiration as well as dug up to burn fossil fuels → goes back into the atmosphere → animal respiration

The carbon cycle is vital for Earth because it allows organisms to survive. The carbon cycle naturally balances carbon throughout the earth making sure there isn’t too much in one area.

The increased release of carbon dioxide from burning fossil fuels disrupts the natural carbon cycle, as more carbon is being released into the atmosphere than can be absorbed by plants and other natural processes + it moves the carbon from the slow cycle to the fast cycle.
