How to calculate pure live seed
PLS % = (Purity % x Germination %)/100
Bulk seed needed (lb)
Desired PLS x area/PLS %

Rule of 70
Used to find when population doubles
70/percentage = number of years it will take for population to double
Autecology
study of individual organisms or individual species in relation to their environment
Synecology
studies interactions and relationships between different species and groups of organisms in a community/ecosystem (community ecology)
What is an island of fertility
- happens when soil nutrient distribution is strongly associated with shrubs
- localized beneath plant canopies. Areas between plants have almost no nutrients
- happen because of physical and biological processes

Ecological law that says that organisms survive between an ecological max and min in relation to environmental factors
Law of Tolerance
Order of the nitrogen cycle from atmosphere thru soil and back to atmosphere
Nitrogen fixation, ammonification, nitrification, denitrification

Deferred rotation grazing
rotates animals & rests specific pasture during its growth/seed set period
Rest rotation
animals rotated, 1 section rested for 1 yearSe
Seasonal suitability
rotation based off seasonal growth patterns, maturity & nutritional quality
Short duration
graze for short period but high density of animals
Best pasture
follow the green. Based off preciptation
The Presence or absence of an individual within a quadrat best describes?
Frequency
Infiltration
water entering the soil surface
Percolation
water moving within soil profile
Explain the pH scale
Lower number = more acidic. Higher number = more basic.
Numbers are on a log scale so 5 is 10x more acidic than 6.
EX: A soil with a pH of 5 is 1000x more acidic as a soil with a pH of 8. (8-5 = 3. Multiply 10 3 times: 10×10×10 = 1000)
Phenology
timing of life cycle or annual cycle events in relation to environmental cues
