Empire
A group of states or territories controlled by one ruler
State
An area organized into a political unit and ruled by an established government with control over its internal and foreign affairs.
Material Culture
the tools, art, buildings, written records, or any materials created by a human culture
Domesticate
a long term process to bring plants or animals under human control through selective breeding
Sedentism
when people began living permanently in one place instead of moving around to find food
Surplus
(n.) an amount beyond what is required, excess; (adj.) more than what is needed or expected
Pastoralism
developed at various sites in the grasslands of Afro-Eurasia because these places supported large mobile herds and nomadic lifestyle but not farming or cities.
Hierarchy
a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other according to status or authority.
Urbanization
An increase in the percentage and in the number of people living in urban settlements.
Nomadic
wandering, moving about from place to place
Division of Labor
the type of arrangement in which each worker specializes in a particular task or job
