Computer
An electronic machine operating under the control of instructions stored in its own memory that accepts data, manipulates data, produces results, and stores results.
Hardware
Physical components of a computer system, such as the CPU, RAM, and storage devices, that make use of circuits to process data and actions.
Simple DC Circuit
A circuit powered by a direct current (DC) source like a battery that includes basic components such as resistors, capacitors, and switches connected in a loop.
Power Sources (Batteries)
DC circuit components that provide the energy needed for current flow.
Resistors
Circuit components that limit the flow of current and are used to control voltage and current levels in a circuit.
Conductors
Wires that carry electric current between components in a circuit.
Voltage (V)
The electrical potential difference between two points that drives current through a circuit.
Current (I)
The flow of electric charge, measured in amperes (A).
Resistance (R)
The opposition to the flow of current, measured in ohms (Ω).
Ohm's Law
A foundational law in simple DC circuit analysis defined by the formula V=IR, essential for understanding power requirements and ensuring stable component operation.
Multimeter
A tool used to accurately measure electrical properties such as voltage, current, and resistance, essential for diagnosing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electronic systems.
Motherboard
Typically the largest printed circuit board in a machine's chassis; it distributes electricity and facilitates communication between the CPU, RAM, and other hardware components.
Power Supply Unit (PSU)
A component that converts AC from the wall outlet into DC power, which is used by the motherboard and its components.
Voltage Regulator Modules (VRMs)
Modules that ensure the CPU and other components receive stable DC power at the correct voltage.
